ironotaku

Hey all,
The Iron Otaku Radio Network scores another big one, this time our good friends Dir En Grey are in the US, and we were there. This time we're backstage at the Nissan Pavilion in Washington DC, just a few hours before they were to go on stage. Check it out!

Producers Note: This is the edited version of the interview, I will be posting the unedited version of this next week. What's the difference between the edited and unedited vesions? Just 2 F-Bombs, so not too big of a deal, but for you purists I will post the original version as well when I am back in my office. Enjoy!

wow, this job seems AWESOME. You can go and interview so many interesting people... not to mention watch Die say "I'm a (mother)fucking rockstar"... haha. Great stuff.

I really hope that when they do come back to America, they can bring their Japanese stage with them. Comparing my FVT experience the stuff I've seen them do in Japan was a huge difference. I think seeing them in their element would definitely be something, lolz. We wouldn't have people in the pit freak out about Kyo. lolz

Haha, it's okay. It was just the first thing I noticed. O____O How did you get to be able to interview them? Like how did you get to that 'status'....I'd really love to take photos of japanese bands for a living but it's so hard when you don't have any good reason or any credentials to get a press pass. -____-

at 04:36PM Thursday on September 28, 2006, Sophia said:

Yes exactly! How do you get into this in the first place? It's something I'd love to do. Learning Japanese wouldn't be a problem either. But I don't limit myself just to Jrock. I like all types of music. The music industry is so interesting x]

haha 'Dir en gray' was the very first thing I noticed too

Once again, AWESOME INTERVIEW! You ask almost the same questions I would if I was lucky enough to talk to them.

How do we do it? Lots of hard work and dedication. Iron Otaku Radio has been around in one format or another for about 7 years, and it's been school of hard knocks from day one. We spent years building these relationships, and I am happy to say that I feel our relationship with Dir En Grey is one of our best.

As for getting into the media industry covering Japanese media....just hard work, dedication and luck is the best advice I can give ya. It's a load of fun if you can get it!

WHY PPL KEEP MAKING INTERVIEWS WITH Dir en grey before they get their facts correct, and before double checking what they are writting, Jesus! Dir en grey is not the one looking bad when ppl keep writting their names wrong and comparing them to other bands, but the ppl that do the interview or write something about them!!

I think that after several comments of ppl correcting you about somethings, wouldn't be nice to correct them????

its ok, probably just some psychotic fangirl who got jealous u got to interview her boyz or something. btw i loved the last question u asked, really makes me hopeful that they will do big shows here like they've done in japan. u actually asked questions that were intresting and informative... the last chick who interviewed them asked if they knew wtf a hotdog was laughing

Lolz. You know what, don't even let that get to you. It WAS a great interview and Diru seems to be really comfortable with you Jason, which is great cause it makes for a great interview atmosphere. I heard the interview in Germany. That's awesome that you got to tour with them. I just hope things work out for 2007 for Diru just like they had hoped to come to America during the Germany tour.

Hmm, I'll try looking into getting into media work with Japanese relations but where to start? Anybody know where I could start?

ROFL, god. At least when I corrected you, I was nice about it. O___O what crawled up his/her ass and died, haha. Anyway, do you have any ideas as for how someone like me could get the credentials in order to do something like this? Like I said, I want to photograph bands. I am hopefully going to Japan this December to see their shows on the 9th and 10th, it's going to be really great ^^;;;

Great interview! Its SO hard to find interviews for DEG conducted in English, as we all know, and often, the ones you find are lame, and just state the obvious facts everyone knows already. (Like their history, what they sing about, etc...) It's so refreshing and exciting to actually listen to a GOOD interview with intelligent questions. I can confidently say, this was the best one I have heard with them. Keep up the good work!

And the Japanese stage to the US! Holy Crap, that is gonna blow everything we have had out of the water. Do I sense an American tour DVD?

Jason,

You are the best English interviewer for Diru. I definitly can't wait for the unedited version. Heehee... F-bombs. This kept me interested... unlike Ms. Hot-Dog woman with her talking to Kyo and his tight pants.

I must ask one question... Is Toshiya cuter in person? xD

Aishi, I met Toshiya briefly at a meet-and-greet, and he is about the same in person as he is in pictures/videos.

It was so quick, I can assure you, they will NEVER remember me. That and I wanted to meet Shinya and Kaoru. (But hey, DEG is DEG, so I shouldn't complain!)

They told me it was their goal to get a US tour in 2007. At no point did they say it was happening for sure, but last time they told me they were coming, it was true. I guess just hope for the best!

Well, Jason, of course I knew it was tentative. There is no guarantee that they'll come here again. However, I wanted to make soemone feel better. I mean, I missed the Showcase tour, and as soon as I heard that there was going to be the Family Values thing, I got more hopeful.

I sincerely hope their plans to come to America again will come true. And truthfully, I think they will come back. As time passes, more and more Japanese media is making it's way (or at least trying to) into the US. And Diru already has a lot more advertisement than most of the other Jrockers (Japanese singers, etc) that come to America. Let's all just hope for the best. We'll probably find out some time in February though (or Spring time) so let's all cross our fingers xD

Waaa, great interview. I love how vague they are. XD
I wish I could get a job like that. Lucky! It's great that we have official dates for both the album and the tour now.. I wish they would come to Vancouver. x_x
It's great how everyone is so supportive of Diru, such as media, and other bands. For example, Korn spoke kindly about them, and Bullets and Octane introduced the ground-breaking Die quote about his rockstar status. XD With such support, maybe one day they will be big enough to have a solo tour, or close to it~!
Again, awesome interview, thanks for it. x3

Here would be some great questions to ask;

1: You currently have a very small selection of items being sold in HOT TOPIC and FYE. Are there plans to make anymore merchandise available to these American stores (like perhaps your older CD's such as KISOU and VULGAR or the CODE OF VULGARISM DVD)?

2: You've done Inward Scream, a U.S. Tour with The Deftones, and a Full Length European Tour, are there any plans to make a DVD of the Live Footage?

3: July 6th, 7th, and 8th were the first concerts you've ever done in PORTLAND OREGON and SEATTLE WASHINGTON, how did those go for you? Would you consider including those areas in your next Headlining U.S. Tour?

4: Did you hear about what happened to MUCC when they opened for Guns & Roses? (They were pelted with bottles and rocks by an angry crowd) Did any similar reactions happen to DIR EN GREY because of the pairing with Deftones? How did that make you feel?
